Mystery and History

Hi, I am Frank Scully, author of mystery and suspense novels. My first book, Resurrection Garden was released on January 1, 2011 and so far has received some very nice 5 star reviews.

Resurrection Garden is a mystery novel set against the backdrop of the settling of the North Dakota prairie at the turn of the 20th century. Railroads and the telegraph were changing transportation and communication. The pace of life was speeding up. The land was filling up with settlers. Opportunity grew out of the newly plowed ground. Deputy Sheriff Jake Turner, a man with a past he would like to leave behind, discovers the body of a murdered man in a thawing snowdrift. While investigating the roots of the crime, Jake uncovers threads leading toward his best friend, who is the brother of the woman he is falling love with. Jake is almost killed and an orphaned boy who has attached himself to Jake is kidnapped and almost killed. Jake is convinced the people behind the murder will kill again to cover their tracks but solving the crime might destroy his dreams. The characters and story are true to their time and place. Interwoven into the fictional are aspects of real life culled from newspapers and letters from the era.

Resurrection Garden is part of my Decade Mystery Series. The next one out is Dead Man's Gambit which is scheduled for release in June. I intend to write at least one book for each decade starting with the beginning of the 20th century to current time exploring what is different and unique in each decade and what stays the same. I write mystery/suspense novels simply because that is what I like to read. I have no pretensions to literary greatness. I write to entertain the reader. I want them to enjoy the ride, to get to know the characters, to feel the love and joy, fear and anxiety along with the characters and feel fulfilled at the end.

I was born and raised in a small town in North Dakota where life moved at a slow and friendly pace. From there I went to college and the military and off to war where the pace picked up, ducking and running was required. After that I got more education went to work on my career which I have been at now for more years than I want to admit.

My primary wish is for more time to write. I have notes for more stories to write and not nearly enough time to fit them in.

Thank you for stopping by and reading this. You all are invited to visit my website and blog.

Hi Frank,
Congratulations with your series - a book for every decade of history sounds like an entertaining and interesting way to enjoy history. Keep them coming!

An interesting post, Frank. And storytellers are what we are. We entertain. A lot of writers forget that. Well done.

I like historicals as long as no bodices are ripped in the making. I think the Humane Society watches out for that type of thing.

Stellar reviews for a stellar writer, and an even nicer man.

Frank is an exceptional writer. I have to say I was wowed by his first book and then flabbergasted to see he had a slew of books to make up a series.

I am still rubbing the top of my head and wonder why no agent had ever picked him up.

Anyone that reads Resurrection Garden will see this writer's voice and storytelling, drawing you straight into the character and setting.

Kudos, Frank.

Frank, what a great idea a different story for each decade. I love reading mystery/suspense though I haven't tried to write them. I will enjoy reading Resurrection Garden I am sure.
