Today we have the privilege of interviewing New Adult Paranormal Romance author,
talking about her debut novel,
The Nearer The Dawn.
What motivated you to become a writer and at what age?
I’ve always been drawn to creative things, and when I began writing, that felt like the right fit. However, I was too afraid to put anything I wrote out there for the world to see. In my early twenties, I was miserable working a job which felt more like a prison sentence than anything else. Someone asked what would make me happiest, and I replied with, becoming a published author. That person hacked into my laptop, read my work and began harassing me on a daily basis to do something with my writing. After several long weeks, I set my fear aside and went for it. Their advice of, ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got, and what do you have?’ was a motivating force.
What 3 words describe you as a person?
Shy, creative, and fierce.
What 3 words describe you as a writer?
Dedicated, passionate, and driven.
When not writing, how do you spend your time? Hobbies?
Hobbies? What are those? I’m always writing these days.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don’t remember the first story I ever read, but I remember the first story which had an impact on me. J.D. Salinger’s, ‘The Catcher In The Rye.’
Describe your desk.
My desk … I don’t have one. I write wherever the mood strikes. Could be on the couch or at the dining room table or even on the floor.
Who is the main character?
For book one, there are only two, but as the saga progresses we gain a few more. For now, its Nina Luther and Chase James.
What’s their story?
Nina Luther is a Mortal Healing Angel who loathes her lot in life, and would do anything to be a typical teenager, burden free.
Chase James’s life takes an unexpected turn after a horrific car accident, which changes who he is forever.
Both must deal with their fate, but can they handle that while good and evil pursue their every move?
Where/when does the story take place?
The story takes place present day, in Savannah, GA.
How did the story come to you?
‘The Nearer the Dawn – Book One’ just came to me one day. No rhyme or reason. The concept haunted me until I finally sat down and began to write it out. After that, the characters came to life in my head and started talking to me. Now, I’m simply their typist. They tell me what they want.
Who is your target audience?
The saga is considered New Adult, but I believe anyone who enjoys paranormal romance, religion and suspense could enjoy the world created.
What makes your book different from other similar ones?
It’s a unique blend of paranormal and religion, which hasn’t been done before. It takes the best and worst of both worlds and slams them together in a realistic, this could actually be happening in reality right now, way.
What do your fans mean to you?
Where do you get the inspirations for your book(s)?
A lot of things, but mainly from my personal Muse, characters and many times, various music.
Any advice for new writers just beginning this trek down the wonderful world of publishing?
If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got, and what do you have? Never give up, even when your work is rejected. Keep going, never allowing anyone or anything to stop you.
Thank you, JP, for stopping by today.
