My Mom: My Best Friend

My mom and I have a unique relationship. We are the best of friends as well as mother and daughter. And we get to share the amazing experience of writing together. She's fellow Muse author L.J. Holmes. I get to read her stuff before anyone else and she gets to read mine.

We critique and edit each other's work long before it ever gets into the hands of the submissions department. We bounce ideas off each other's heads which helps us to figure out where our stories are headed. And we cheer for each other when we get a new contract and cry when we get a rejection.

My mom is my hero. Life would be a real mess without her. We do fight on occasion, but we always know that we'll get over it quick and still be so grateful for the other. We also have a lot of fun doing things together that would be mundane and boring were it not for the company.
On Saturday we spent the day going through our vast collection of books and dvd's. We live in an apartment and have limited space, so we were picking out the ones we don't watch often or re-read a lot and putting them away in crates. Instead of it being a boring and tiring chore, we spent the whole time teasing each other and laughing.

Our eldest cat sat on top of our printer supervising while the youngest glowered at us for disturbing her cat bed so we could get to some empty crates. And after we were done we had lunch and our cats decided to hop into empty bags and make them dance.

I love my Mom. She's the  bravest person I know in the whole world. And what's more, she's my best friend. So Happy Mother's Day Mom. I love you and so do the cats.

P.S. I think Spatz is planning on nailing her bed down so we can't move it again.:-)

I am so in love with my daughter. She makes each day more than any mother could wish for. Prior to writing together, we made one of a kind designer dolls to give away, sharing the wonder of seeing the light in the eyes of the elderly we gave them to in nursing homes that year as Christmas gifts.

Together she and I have created a world that allows us to change our limitations into a wonder and magic. What more could any mother ask for?

I love you Kat. Thank you for your love, your laughter, your friendship and the life you have helped me create.

Kat, Lin, you have a wonderful and rare relationship. And the best part? You recognize and cherish it. Hugs and kisses to you both. And Happy Mother/Daughter's Day (did we just invent this special holiday?) Anyway, for you two, it's every day.

Kat, what a wonderful experience to see inside you and your mother's loving life!! Lin is a treasure and you are both lucky to have each other! Having my own daughters I understand the delicate balance a mother must have with her adult children. You and Lin have achieved this balance and both of you shine because of that! I loved your exuberant description of your not-boring poring over your books and DVD's. Thank you for sharing this and how wonderful to have a mother like Lin:)

It's wonderful how close you two are. I'm close to my 14 yr old daughter and hope to stay that way when she's grown as you two have. It's truly inspiring. :)
