We have the pleasure today of sitting down and talking with multi-published author,
Larriane Wills.
Who are some of your favorite
authors?
Really
so many for many genres from science fiction to westerns and nearly everything
in-between.
What motivated you to become a
writer and at what age?
Always
a story teller, from as long as I can remember. I told them to myself as a
child, making my mother believe I had an imaginary friend. I didn’t, however,
turn to writing anything down until my earlier twenties. Then I fooled around
making excuses to not submit anything until my 50s. Boy, should I have started
sooner.
What 3 words describe you as a
person?
Quiet,
fair, patient
What 3 words describe you as a writer?
Never
quite finished.
When not writing, how do you spend
your time? Hobbies?
Reading,
watching movies, knitting, second hand shopping.
Do you remember the first story you
ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I
don’t remember the first, but I remember many from grade school. I always read
ahead of my grade level, visited the school library often, and never left
without an armload of books.
Describe your desk.
Messy,
but after seeing that picture passing around in emails of how the desks of
creative peoples’ look, I’m not going to worry about neatness.
Who is the main character?
Jim
Liberty, some would say. Anna others.
What’s his story?
Hard
to say for either without creating a spoiler.
Where/when does the story take
place?
Late
1800’s in a ranching area newly opened up for homesteading.
How did the story come to you?
Darned
if I know. Sometimes I know what starts a ‘why if’ scenario going off in my
head. Sometimes I don’t. In Dogs Dance, if I saw or read or heard something
that started it off, I don’t remember what it was.
Who is your target audience?
Everyone
from youth to oldsters, male and female who enjoy a story. Not only males enjoy
a good western, and not only females enjoy a bit of a romance. I could name one
of the very top western writers who sneaked a lot of romance into his stories.
What makes your book different from
other similar ones?
The
characters and a story line that isn’t as predictable as most.
What do your fans mean to you?
Love
them, wish I had more, but even without them the stories would keep coming.
Fans, hearing from them boast you up, and maybe make your head swell a little.
Where do you get the inspirations for
your book(s)?
Everywhere,
anywhere. Never know when a spark will set off.
Any advice for new writers just
beginning this trek down the wonderful world of publishing?
Write,
write, read, read, and don’t be afraid to submit. Rejections may hurt, but you’ll
never know the thrill of holding that first publication in your hands if you
don’t take that first step. Just be sure to check out the publisher before you
sign any contract. As much as I hate to say it, there are too many out there
who will take advantage of those inexperienced and too anxious for that first
release.
